There She Stands

I love this song by Michael W. Smith There she stands. The American Flag certainly does still stand tall and proud today. First, she has continued to stand because of God's hand of favor that rest on us. Second, she still stands because there have been American from every generation that have been willing to lay down their lives to protect the freedom and liberty she stands for. Despite what the media may try to claim, Americans are still seen as the guardians of liberty and freedom around the world. Much of the world knows freedom and liberty today because some time in the past American fought and bleed there. Most of all, Americans still know freedom and liberty at home today because every time evil has threatens her, Americans stood up, taken up arms and said no.

To all the service men and women, present, past, and future, thank you for protecting liberty and freedom. Thank you for laying down your lives, both physically and figuratively, so others may know freedom and liberty. You are the heroes of Americans everywhere. We support you and love you. God Bless the U.S. Military.

Falling water

That is what I am currently listening to in the background. Once again I am sitting outside on the lawn of Regent as I often do during the week. The wireless internet affords me the pleasure of enjoying the outdoors all while being productive on the web. The one thing that is different though is the lack of busy people moving about. The campus looks almost disserted at the moment, yet still very peaceful.

This is today’s snoopy comic strip. Despite the humor in the fact that Schroeder became sidetrack by his hero Beethoven, his point is very true. Jesus in Mark told the Pharisees:

The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these. (Mark 12:29-31, NKJV)

If we are not living our lives for others, what value of happiness can be found in it? When asked to give the greatest commandment, he could have just said to love the Lord. Yet He chose to forever connect the two. One cannot love God and not love others. If we truly seek after God's heart, we are going to find it is caring about people.

This is really just the tip of another topic I want to write about in a couple of days, which is priorities. But the simple point is this, if it is God’s heart for use to love people, then we are never going to find happiness in serving ourselves. Does happiness come from always spending five dollars on yourself or from occasionally giving the five dollars away to a little girl to go buy a ice-cream cone? Does happiness come to the man who spends his life buying toys for himself or to the parents who sacrifice so their children can have a better life then they did?

Until next time, have an awesome day and go love some people.

Strawberries Galore

So today begins the Pungo Strawberry Festival. It is the one time of year that Pungo is jammed packed and Downtown Pungo has enough people to justify it being called “Downtown” (I still love calling it Downtown Pungo anyway!)

Maybe it is because I live two minutes away from it and have so for over 12 years, but the Festival really has failed to grab my attention in the past few years. I have had people tell me they love the Strawberry Festival and they love coming to it. According to the festival website (http://www.pungostrawberryfestival.info/), they are expecting over 120,000 thousand people to be attending over the next three days! To me the festival didn’t seem to have that kind of an appeal, yet maybe it has become so normal to me that I have failed see it for what it truly is. Actually all this though over it has made me curious again about all that they will have there this year.

So if you have never been to the Pungo Strawberry Festival, maybe you should consider coming by and spending a part of the day there. Who knows, give me a ring and I may even join ya!

How well do you know me?

I have decided to make this blog a like more interactive and maybe even help you learn a little bit more about me. Answer the following question.

Which one of the following is false:

(A) I canoed/whitewater rafted over 60 miles on a river over a week’s period.

(B) I took tap dancing lessons for one year.

(C) I played on a Baseball team as a shortstop for two seasons with a batting average of .291.

Have fun! Two of the answers are true (obviously) and one is completely false, not an ounce of truth in it!

And oh, please answer the question before you try to comment (that way you are not influenced by other's answers).

Behind the Scenes

Wow, Regent's Commencement this year was great! I am now very much looking forward to mine next year. Hopefully I will have some photos from Commencement up for everyone to view soon!

I have a lot of things that I want to write about on my blog. They are pretty much thoughts and ideas that I have pondered for the past couple of days, yet time restricts me from being able to do so right now. As many of you know, the summer semester began as of today, so I am right back into school work. In addition to my class over the summer, I need to begin preparing for the LSAT. So with all that said and until time allows me to write with you more, I leave you with this video from behind the scences of my campaign video. Thanks to everyone who took the time to voted!
